The YWCA of Greece met with representatives of the UN Working Group on the Discrimination against Women
The UN working group on the discrimination against women in Law and Practice met on April 2nd at a centrally located hotel in Athens. The members of the organizations present, referred to the economic crisis that how it has affected the country and more specifically women and their rights.
Despite the existing institutional framework (ratification of the ‘Istanbul Convention’, drafting of bills concerning gender equality, etc.) there are various issues women are facing such as: rise of gender based violence, domestic violence, prostitution and sexual harassment, underemployment, unemployment, regardless of age, social class or educational level.
Emphasis was placed on the role of women’s and feminist organizations, as well as on the active voluntarism of women in them
